THOUSANDS CELEBRATE PRIDE IN THE RAIN
6 October 2007
Johannesburg, 6 October 2007 - An estimated five thousand gays and lesbians – and their friends and families – turned out for the 18th annual Joburg Pride Parade in Rosebank, Johannesburg, today despite the inclement weather.
JOBURG PRIDE – Africa’s oldest gay Pride event – is set to come of age in 2007 when the annual event celebrates its 18th anniversary.
The Parade
The JOBURG PRIDE PARADE will take place on Saturday 6 October 2007 starting at Zoo Lake Sports club from 10am. The parade will take a circular route, returning to Zoo Lake Sports Club at around 1pm, when the celebration is set to continue. A number of top entertainers will perform live at the JOBURG PRIDE “Party in the Park”. THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE for the Party in the Park.

Pride Week
The 2007 JOBURG PRIDE WEEK celebrations officially kick off on Thursday 27 September. A number of events will also take place across Gauteng in the week preceding the parade. Clubs and entertainment venues in Joburg and Pretoria will be hosting numerous parties, while community organisations will be presenting seminars on more serious topics. Got gizmo’s and gifts or bits n pieces? Book your stall at the Zoo Lake Sports Club, where the Joburg Gay Pride Parade starts and finishes this year, and access a captive market!
We’re expecting 10 000 people to join the festivities this year, partly because we’ve formed a new Section 21 company (non-profit organisation), and partly because Pride is turning 18 this year, and Coming of Age!
The stand is a 3m x 3m area on the field at the venue, and only costs R200. So bring your wares and add to the vibe!

The Joburg Pride 2007 board has put out a call for volunteers to assist the organisation by contributing their time and resources. The Pride team is especially keen on volunteers that have organisational, eventing, design and marketing skills.
